PED1160 – Motivation, Leadership and Achievement

Course content

Motivation is considered a key concept in psychology and education and belongs into the core of human behaviour. The course in motivation, leadership and achievement will focus on exploring basic motivational psychology applied to a wide range of perspective; from the school areas to the working places. It also addresses the general pattern of interaction oriented motivation as well as assessment of motivation.

Learning outcome

The course has double aims of bringing students to the frontline of research in motivation and to show how that knowledge can be applied to specific issues in different real life areas.

Admission

Prerequisites

Formal prerequisite knowledge

No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway.

Overlapping courses

Students accepted to this course are not recommended to apply for the course PED4660 at the Master's level. There is a considerable credit reduction due to overlapping courses.

Teaching

The teaching will be a mixture of lectures and cases which will be highlighted from different perspectives. In addition, the students are encouraged to reflect on their own knowledge and experiences. Attendance is compulsory.

Examination

Requirements: (obligatory components):

  • One project report (5 pages)
  • One plenum presentation (oral or poster) of a relevant
    topic within motivation, leadership and acheivement

Students are expected to participate in the seminars. The deadlines for requirements will be announced at the beginning of the semester. You will need to be enrolled in the course in order to take the exam. All requirements have to be fullfilled the same semester.

To retake an exam: You can retake the exam if you have previously attended this course and had your requirements approved. You may thus undertake exam the next time this course is running. These regulations take effect Spring 2008 and do not apply retrospectively. An exam can be taken 3 times. Contact the student administration at PFI directly for admission.
